Young people are taking note.

Art is becoming hip again and the Bellevue Arts Museum are the cool kids leading the pack. The museum is gearing up to add a playful spin to its focus of art, craft and design. Drawing away from the everyday mundane, the museum transforms into a mix-and-mingle club setting for one night every few months. Friday night becomes a blend of music, wine, appetizers, mingling, live performances and above all else, art.

This is Finally Friday, and it is taking over BAM on Friday, April 16.

Finally Friday is an event geared towards a younger crowd, inviting a new audience to come and enjoy the art museum and it’s galleries in a trendy and unique atmosphere.

“Finally Friday gets people in the galleries and experiencing art in a more social way,” said Tanja Baumann, Director of PR and Marketing.

Previous Finally Friday events have featured everything from break-dancers to a tango performance group. Each event has had anywhere from 250 to 420 people and the numbers are increasing with each event. In the future, BAM is considering adding a poetry slam and theatrical performances.  The up-coming April 16 Finally Friday will feature a local DJ, dancing, gallery tours, cocktails, and different programs throughout the event.  Not only is Finally Friday an opportunity to socialize, but it is also an opportunity for BAM to showcase new galleries.

This Finally Friday will showcase the new gallery Beth Levine: The First Lady of Shoes. Beth Levine was one of the first successful female shoe designers. Two other galleries will also be featured at the event: a gallery on the (mis)perception of value called The Gold standard by Lisa Granlick and Eyes for Glass:The Price Collection. To go along with the Beth Levine gallery, fashion will be a theme for this Finally Friday. During the event, there will be a fashion show of local designers work.

“I think the the multi diciplinary portion of it is interesting,” said Baumann. “It is a time to bring your friends and connect with people you haven’t met before and have a different artsy experience than on a normal Friday night.”

This is the third year that BAM has put on these events. The museum is considering a roof-top summer party for the August Finally Friday event and a Halloween costume party for the one taking place in October.

“We wanted to create a social night – a fun night at the museum,” said Baumman. “It makes for a more rewarding experience.”

Even though the event is geared towards 21 to 39 year olds, the party is open to the young and old alike. All ages are welcome and those over the age of 21 will receive a wristband to enjoy complimentary cocktails.
