On Wednesday, May 19, comedian Nate Jackson will bring the laughs at the Parlor Live Comedy Club for a one-time event benefiting the Atlantic Street Center of Seattle and the Alajawan Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund. Doors open at 8 p.m., and tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.

Jackson was recently named the winner of the 2010 Bay Area Comedy Competition, joining the ranks of past winners Jamie Foxx, D.L. Hughley, Chris Tucker and Katt Williams. Jackson first began performing at comedy clubs in the Spokane area while attending Eastern Washington University. Jackson embarked on a National tour in 2008 and has opened for comedians Mark Curry, Tony Rock, Rodney Perry, Tony Roberts, Cocoa Brown and Jay Phillips.

On May 19, Jackson will take the stage to help raise funding and awareness for the Atlantic Street Center, a local nonprofit which helps kids of all ages flourish academically, emotionally and socially. The Center offers services and programs including literacy services for young children and their parents; youth tutoring and summer school for school aged youth; social and leadership skills development for teens and pre-teens; parenting classes and support groups for parents of all ages; life skills classes for adults; and mental health counseling for children and families.

Each year, the Atlantic Street Center serves more than 3,000 youth and their family members. All services are free to participants.

The Atlantic Street Center is located at 2103 South Atlantic Street, Seattle, 206.329.2050, http://www.atlanticstreet.org/.

A portion of the evenings proceeds from the Nate Jackson showcase will benefit the Alajawan Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Twelve-year-old, Alajawan Brown, who had just gotten off a Metro bus last week and was walking home, when he was caught in gunfire that killed him. He’s described by family members as a boy who loved family, drumming and playing football with his Renton Area Athletic Association football team, the Renton Rangers.
