HOT TIPS: The shows you don’t want to miss this summer
Rodrigo y Gabriela, Michael Franti & Spearhead
A duo from Mexico (via Ireland – real life) whose fast-pasted, acoustic guitar acrobats are not only uber pleasing to the ear, but incredible to watch. Although the pair has released four albums in 12 years, they’ve kept touring to a minimum – which makes this intimate evening even more special. Paired with Franti’s reggae- infused tracks and a glass of wine, well that’s just heaven in a nutshell. 6 p.m. July 5 at Chateau Ste Michelle. $45.
MOJO featuring Al Lowe and Steve Reincke
The Eastside Jazz Club has been hosting some of the best jazz musicians on the Eastside for 10 years, but they’re always looking to bring new fans into the fold. If you’ve yet to attend one of their events, you’re truly missing out. This month’s event features Big Band MOJO with Al Lowe and Steve Reincke – and it’s sure to be a swingin’ good time. 7:30 p.m., July 6 at Bellevue Marriott Courtyard Hotel, 11010 NE Eighth St. Adults, $13; 18 and under, $8.
Mayer hasn’t been on tour in a few years – on account of vocal problems – which makes this trip to the Gorge one of the most exciting, and, er, risky of the summer. Will his voice hold? How are these new Americana tracks gonna sound live? Um, probably awesome. Adding to the mystique of it all? Opener Phillip Philips, whose giving the boys of Mumford and Sons a run for their money with tracks like “Home” and “Gone Gone Gone.” The pairing could prove the most magical, beautiful night of the summer. 7:30 p.m., July 20 at the Gorge Amphitheatre. $46.50.
