Golf for good | May 14-19
The Pacific Northwest (PNW) Section of the PGA is set to bring their 11th championship to Glendale, adding a Sponsor Pro-Am on the weekend to benefit Camp Korey at Carnation Farm. The new tournament, called The Korey at the Washington Open, will debut May 14-19 at Glendale Country Club in Bellevue.
The weekend-long event also includes a little live music and comedy action in the mix. The Korey kicks off Friday night at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue with dinner, music by The Main Attraction, and comedy by Norm Crosby. Saturday evening includes hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and entertainment by Comedy Central regular John Pinette.
“It’s great to be able to come together with the PGA and Glendale Country Club to put on this tournament. The Washington Open had become a forgotten tournament despite a rich history and great champions like Fred Couples,” said Bob Abramowitz, the Chair of the Korey committee and a Camp Korey Board Member. “It is spectacular to be able to revitalize this event and benefit an amazing charity like Camp Korey. The PNW PGA and the amateur sponsors will enjoy an exciting event on a classic, challenging course. I also couldn’t imagine a better cause than the courageous children and families who benefit from Camp Korey programs. This is just the inaugural event, and I know The Korey will get bigger every year.”
During The Korey, golfers will enjoy a modified shamble format on Saturday with shotgun starting at 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The final Team Championship round will take place on Sunday with awards to follow.
Prizes include $15,000 for first place in the Pro Championship, $1,000 per day in the Sponsor Pro-Am, and exciting tee prizes from TaylorMade Adidas. Sponsorships for teams of four (plus one Pro) are available for the weekend Korey event at $5,000 and up.
The tournament benefits Camp Korey, a Carnation-based camp which serves children with serious and life-threatening illnesses at no cost to them, offering summer camps, family weekends, therapeutic recreation, and hospital outreach to families in the Northwest and beyond.
