Overlake Service League Drive for Dreams 2010

Set against the breathtaking Bellevue skyline and lush green course at The Golf Club at Newcastle, hundreds joined together for a day of golf and fundraising for The Overlake Service League 2010 Drive for Dreams Golf Classic on May 24.

The annual golf tournament and live auction raised more than $153,000 for Overlake Service League’s Focus on Youth and Emergency Assistance programs.

Along with local community members, business leaders and volunteers, a collection of professional athletes hit the green for the day-long event.

Athletes who participated in this year’s tournament and awards dinner included Sean Locklear, the Seattle Seahawks Right Tackle; Rosalynn Sumners, 1984 Olympic Silver Medalist figure skater;

Turner Stevenson, former National Hockey League player and winner of the Stanley Cup; Mike Keenan, former National Hockey League coach; Jim Nettles, former Major League Baseball outfielder; and Jamie Huscroft and Doug Kirton, both former National Hockey League players.

The Drive for Dreams golf tournament was followed by an evening Awards Dinner, Live Auction and Helicopter Golf Ball Drop. The lucky $1,000 winner of the ball drop was Sally Wright and the winner of the evening’s 50-50 raffle was Kim Brace, who walked away with $1,280.

Mark Babcock of Lexus of Bellevue helped arrange the donation of the top-selling Live Auction item, the Lexus “Champions for Charity” that sold for $12,000. The package included 3 days of play for two amateur golfers in a 54-hole tournament on three great pebble beach courses.

Another local businessman, restaurant owner John Howie, stepped up in a big way by donating gift certificates to his three restaurants during the Fund-a-Need portion of the evening. His efforts helped raise an additional $7,200. In total, the Fund-a-Need raised $37,850 for Overlake Service League programs.
